Sereno Routing guide

How to plan a passage with Sereno Routing, on the web, the Android app and the iPhone app.

Sereno Routing plans a sailing passage on the latest weather forecasts. You give it a start, a finish and a departure time. It sails your boat's polar through the forecast, around land, reef and shallow water, and gives you the route, the conditions along it and a PDF to keep.

For planning, not for navigating. A route here is a plan made from a forecast and from coarse land, reef and depth data. Check it against your charts and the official forecasts, and keep your own watch.

Two ways to use it

Settings has a choice between two ways of working, and you can switch at any time:

Contents

  1. 1Quick start: just route it

Sign in, place a start and finish, run it, read it, get the PDF. One page.

  2. 2Setup

Your membership, signing in, the Android and iPhone apps, and the settings that describe your boat.

  3. 3Routing in depth

Everything the New route form can do, and what to do when a route doesn't come out cleanly.

  4. 4Reading a route

The map, the slider and layers, storms and upper air disturbances, the boat and point boxes, the Data tabs and comfort.

  5. 5Reports

The route PDF, CSV and GPX, and the passage brief.

  6. 6Planning a passage

Optional. Trips, departure days and their verdicts, watching a trip and then a day, and the brief.

  7. 7Understanding the results

Models and runs, ensembles, polars, comfort, current, depth data, storms and upper air disturbances, and what the messages mean.

Sereno is built and tested aboard S/V Sabado. Questions go to Ray, who gave you your token.
